Try this Char Siu pork using budget-friendly and versatile British pork shoulder steaks that is easy to use in this flavoursome fakeaway.

Step 1
First, in a large bowl mix the pork with the marinade ingredients, cover and leave in the fridge for 2 hours, or if time allows, overnight.
Step 2
Preheat the oven to 150°C ,170°C Fan, Gas Mark 5.
Step 3
Remove pork from the marinade (reserve the marinade) and place on a foil-lined baking tray.
Step 4
Bake the pork in the oven for 20 minutes.
Step 5
Pour the reserved marinade in a saucepan and bring up to the boil over high heat for a few seconds.
Step 6
After 20 minutes, remove the pork from the oven and brush some of the marinade over the pork. Return to the oven and bake for a further 15 minutes. Repeat this step twice more.
Step 7
Meanwhile, prepare the fried rice; heat the oil in a non-stick pan over a moderate heat and cook the garlic for a few seconds. Add the egg and scramble.
Step 8
Add the rice along with the soy sauce, spring onions, season with salt and pepper to taste. Mix well and heat until the rice is piping hot.
Step 9
Serve the char Siu pork with the rice and some salad leaves – enjoy!
